Martin Scherrer, Head of Flight Operations and Markus Fischer, Sales Director Special Mission Aircraft – both at Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH – ferried the two aircraft to South Africa and have shared impressive numbers on this flight:
The distance of 5,183 nm (9,599 km) from Diamond Aircraft Industries’ headquarters in Wiener Neustadt, Austria to Lanseria Airport, South Africa were made in 3.5 days with a total airborne time of 30:24 hours, following this route: Wr. Neustadt (Austria) - Burgas (Bulgaria) – Paphos (Cypres) – Luxor (Egypt) – Khartoum (Sudan) – Addis Abeba (Ethiopia) – Nairobi (Kenya) – Lilongwe (Malawi) – Lanseria (South Africa).
The DA62 was flown with an average ground speed of 170.5 kts (315.7 km/h) and was burning 15.1 USGal/hr (57 l/hr) on average. The DA42 MPP used approximately 10% less fuel at similar speeds.
